A Note:
Umberhill as a community is being built as a place for fun, collaborative roleplay and worldbuilding. Our goal is to build a server and community built on creativity and community- and hope to approach things as collaboratively as we can. Accountability will be held when issues arise, regardless of standing, and in general we strive to keep our community an enjoyable and fair experience for all involved! We're passionate roleplayers ourselves, and we hope to build a world together alongside the community and tell interesting stories. As well, all staff are people, too! We do our best to contribute to the community, but at the end of the day every member of staff is a volunteer and is not above the rules in any way.
-
This server is 18+, and anyone found to be underaged will be promptly removed from the community, as well as any who may be found covering for someone underaged.
-
In general, be respectful! We absolutely do not tolerate any form of trollplay, harassment, or general disrespectful behavior. We're all here to have fun, and while disputes and arguments are bound to happen, there's no need for things to devolve into outright fighting and hostility. This simply isn't the place for that! As well, if someone has made it clear they do not like you / have blocked you, do not make repeated attempts to contact them or harass them in-game.
-
We absolutely will not tolerate any form of racism, homophobia, transphobia, or any sort of discrimination or derogatory use of slurs.
-
Absolutely no threats to players' safety, doxing, and any form of sexual harassment, grooming, or general sex offenses. Any of these will result in immediate bans.
-
No use of any mods that would outright be seen as cheating (i.e., hacked or cracked clients). The usage of harmless mods such as freecam are allowed, however.
-
No spamming the chat! Whether that be spamming .gifs, emojis, or text, please be respectful of our chats! This goes for spamming OOC chatter as well!
-
No plagiarism or art theft! If you did not make it and do not have permission to use it, staff will act if it is found out. As well, this includes any form of AI Generated artwork! With disclosure, you may share AI generated artwork to share ideas, but it should be clearly labeled as such and in no way should be passed off as your own work.
- No in-depth discussion of real-world political or religious issues. These things can be touched on lightly, but should not be delved into in-depth. We strive to keep our community welcoming to everyone and while this may sometimes seem unfair, discussion should be primarily focused on the server, the world and lore that the community has come together to build and make alive. As well, things in-character should not veer too closely to IRL issues. We greatly value the comfort of every member, and if at any point conversation seems to steer in a way that makes you uncomfortable, reach out to staff!
- Membership of our community is in no way a right, and at any point people who may not fit the community well or are known to have caused issues elsewhere previously may be denied entry or removed from the community if proven a problem. As well, if there is someone in the community that makes you uncomfortable in a way that violates these rules, or feel is against the spirit of the community- please, make a ticket and report it!
- Criticism of someone's writing / roleplay is allowed only if invited and must be kept constructive and respectful!
- No metagaming / powergaming / trollplay of any kind! As well, please try to avoid things generally seen as 'poor' or disruptive roleplay (i.e., excessive retconning, godmodding, powerplay, RDM, etc.). This includes stalking people via the Dynmap. Be respectful!
- No alt abuse! Alts are generally allowed on the server (simply ask for them to be whitelisted!), however, multiple characters played on alts should not benefit the other in any way, and it is typically best to avoid them having any direct relationship or interactions with each other. As well, try to avoid alts being in the same place at one time!
- No inappropriate roleplay. Things such as fictional racism, excessive gore, cannibalism, bestiality, sexual violence, and disrespectful portrayal of mental illness / suicidal ideations are absolutely not allowed. Mental illness can be played out, so long as it is done respectfully, avoids stereotyping and characters are not built to revolve around said issues and consent is acquired from any parties that would be involved in said scenes before they happen. As well, NSFW roleplay is allowed so long as it is in private locations (such as a building you own) and is done so between consenting players and only using a small-ranged chat that does not broadcast it to people outside.
- In-Character and Out-of-Character should be treated separately, always. Antagonistic characters are going to exist and are fully allowed, and interactions between characters should not lead to hostility between players! The same goes for in-character relationships, in general it's good to remember that while your character and someone else's character may wind up in a relationship, that does not mean that you and that person are in a relationship. Likewise, a player taking a break from the server for a span of time should not result in consequences for their character, nor should anyone be treated any differently out-of-character for anything done in-character, unless something in violation of our rules.
- Do not show up to cause a disturbance or as an NPC at another player's event without explicit consent beforehand! Disruptions and disturbances can be fun, but significantly less so when it's someone taking attention away from your event.
- Keep real-world ideas, names, and politics out of roleplay! You are free to take inspiration from fictional characters, however character should not be based off of or named after real people or characters. (for example, a character inspired by the Legend of Zelda franchise being named 'Link Zelda', or a character named 'Lebron James'). Roleplay as well should generally avoid being too close a parallel to real life issues. Roleplay in general is escapism, and it's best not to bog down said escapism for others by trying to roleplay out a thinly-veiled portrayal of real-world events, movements, or political agendas.
- Resurrection is in no way a common occurrence in the world, and while it may appear so by proxy of player characters being the primary source of interaction with the world on the server, it should in no way be treated as something expected or unsurprising in-character. (This can vary depending on a given character's circumstances, but generally no character should outright not fear death due to knowledge of resurrection being possible.)
- Loitering around roleplay while not in-character is not permitted. Try to afk in places that roleplay clearly wouldn't happen at, and do not lurk around roleplay out-of-character unless you intend to ask to join! As well, it is basic courtesy to ask before approaching a group that is already mid-roleplay.
